About the Summer School
Our Summer School is fully funded and is available for 60 participants in Years 9 and 10, taking place from Monday 27 to Thursday 30 July 2026.
Once again, we have partnered with the Higher Education Outreach Network and have reserved places for participants who meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- – You are a Surrey Scholar
- – You live in an IMD Decile 1 or 2 postcode*
- – You live in a POLAR4 Quintile 1 postcode**
- – You have received Free School Meals within the last 6 years
- – You have a diagnosed disability or long-term health condition
- – You are a young carer
- – You have experience of living within care
- – You are a forced migrant (a refugee or an asylum-seeking young person)
- – You have a parent who has served in the Armed Forces or as a Reservist
- – You are from a Gypsy, Roma or Traveller community
- – You are from a Black, Minority & Ethnic group
*Indices of Multiple Deprivation are commonly used datasets to clarify relative deprivation within smaller areas of the UK.
**POLAR4 classifies progression rates of young people into Higher Education within local areas of the UK.

Our Summer School is completely FREE to attend, including all meals, activities and accommodation. Throughout the week, you will take part in a variety of interactive subject taster workshops and information sessions designed to showcase all Higher Education options. You will also complete a research project in your chosen subject area. Sessions will be delivered by University of Surrey and HEON staff, as well as by other partner universities and colleges. You will have the chance to meet current students and learn more about studying and living at university.
Subject Strands
Residential experiences are available in the following subject strands:
- – Humanities (example subjects* include: Law, Business, Politics)
- – Creative Arts (example subjects* include: Music, Art, Drama, Media/Film)
- – Physical Sciences (example subjects* include: Physics, Space, Chemistry)
- – One Health (example subjects* include: Biosciences, Health Sciences, Psychology)
*Examples of subjects that may be featured within the timetable for the subject strand and may be subject to change.
How to apply
Applications for the Discover University Summer School are open from Monday 19 January until Sunday 29 March 2026. We will then confirm whether you have received a place on the week beginning Monday 29 April 2026. Places are not allocated on a first come, served basis and we will consider previous engagement when oversubscribed.
