Y12 Surrey Analyst Competition

When: Tuesday 21 to Wednesday 22 July 2026

Where: University of Surrey

Are you a student in Year 12 (or equivalent) studying either Chemistry or a related laboratory science subject? If yes, we invite you to take part in our Chemistry competition this Summer!

Take part in our non-residential summer school and put your analytical skills to the test by working in a team of 3 or 4 participants, completing experiments to determine if local water is safe to drink and to use in chemical reactors.

Across the two days, you will meet laboratory researchers, develop new skills and hear more about what it is like to do real-world chemical research from our team of scientists working at the cutting edge. You’ll get the chance to work in our teaching & research laboratory and ask questions directly to university students and academics.

First prize in the Analyst Competition includes an amazon voucher for each of the winning team members!

The competition takes place on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 July from 10:00 to 16:00 on each date. This is a two day event and participants will need to be able to attend both dates to complete the non-residential summer school.

This event is open to all learners in Y12 (or equivalent) studying Chemistry or a related laboratory subject. We have capacity for 30 participants, with priority places awarded to applicants studying relevant subject areas.

Eligible participants can receive a travel bursary to reimburse transport costs across the two dates. You can read more about our travel bursary and eligibility criteria here.

To take part in this opportunity, please complete our Y12 Non-Residential Summer Schools Application Form.
